How to use the tide
On Lembongan the tide decides the day. At low tide the seaweed farms and reef flats come out of the water; at high tide the boats can reach the beach and the mangrove channels fill. Most surf breaks work best from mid to high tide, and the reef gets very shallow at low. Swell and wind decide how lively the sea is: big swell makes Devil's Tears spectacular and the south-west beaches dangerous.
The numbers here come from an ocean model, not a gauge on the beach, so treat times as a guide to within half an hour or so. Local boatmen always know best.
